Bimblebox: art – science – nature opens at Flinders University City Gallery, Adelaide

Professor Andrew Millington, Dean of the School of the Environment at Flinders University, gave an eloquent address at the opening of ‘Bimblebox: art – science – nature’ exhibition at Flinders University City Gallery last night. Praising the exhibition for its interdisciplinary approach, he championed art’s ability to communicate vividly, make connections and reach wide audiences. Gallery Director Fiona Salmon described the effort to save Bimblebox Nature Refuge as a battle of David and Goliath proportions. Following speeches, the attending audience was treated to a performance of the ‘Coal Face’ artwork by artists Alison Clouston and Boyd. Dressed in a black business suit, Alison donned the ‘Coal Face’ mask and ship shoes, and proceeded to prowl around the gallery, whipping the floor with her trail of long black rubber ‘hair’ and lurching her hulking form from side to side.
